New Podcast: The Grey Company
Last week, I teased a new project that I’ve been working on, and I’m pleased to be able to now announce it officially: The Grey Company podcast! This podcast is the result of a collaboration between myself, Dan from the Hall of Beorn, Matthew D. of the Progression Series, and Derek, guest blogger on Master of Lore. Our goal is to provide an in-depth look at LOTR LCG, covering strategy, meta-game, deck building, and lore. The pilot episode is ready for your listening pleasure, while we are aiming to release Episode 1 in about three weeks. We hope that you enjoy!
If you like what you hear, consider liking us on Facebook for updates and news.
Note: Just to be clear, this podcast is separate from our respective blogs/videos, and TftC will continue in the same manner as before (other than the occasional shameless self-promotion!).
It is nice… But would be much much better with video. Just to see those cards like in cardboard of the rings.
Technical note: Beorn has terrible microphone.
Video isn’t currently part of our plans, although we may release some playthrough videos here and there as special “episodes”. The technical note is appreciated, we are likely going to be working through some initial hiccups on the way to a better podcast!
Well, those special episodes are awesome idea!
By the way: I listened to it once again, and I realized how naturally you all speak and it is better without video! You guys make this game much much better!
KEEP UP THE AWESOME JOB!
(Sorry for my bad english, I am Slovak)
Are you submitting this podcast to the iTunes Store ? It is free, and would make streaming work on iOS devices. Right now, when I follow your link to stream the podcast, it says to touch a (non-existent) play button. I’m sure it’s an issue with iOS Safari compatibility.
It has been submitted to iTunes and should be available shortly. For now, we’ve added a direct download button, so you should be able to get the mp3 or stream from there.
Overall, I think it’s a great addition to the community. I actually like the audio-only format as it’s easier to consume it since I can listen while I’m mowing the lawn, etc.
Small comment, I think most podcasts are a little too long for me to listen to regularly. If episodes were a little more thoroughly planned, I think the same content could be presented in 30 minutes or so.
Thanks! When we planned out the general idea for this podcast, we all agreed that we wanted relatively short, digestible episodes. Ultimately, we settled on an ideal length of 45 minutes (similar to the pilot), and this is what you can expect for the future. We hope that this is short enough to keep things tight, but long enough to provide a good dose of content, especially given our modest monthly release schedule.
Lord of the Rings LOTR Allstars: I love it! What with this and the spate of new expansions flowing out from Fantasy Flight then my insatiable appetite to consume everything related to this card game might almost be met. I know that speaking idiomatically you are exploring the grey areas of the game (like whether or not Core Gandalf is better than his Hobbit alterego) but are any you guys like actually grizzled with wisdom? Thanks again for this terrific content…
Thanks for listening and the kind words are much appreciated! I can’t say that any of us can be said to be grey, but I have been known to find white hairs hiding out in my hair like rangers in the forests of Ithilien!
good idea about video. I think if you will have a video podcast that will be much more interesting and popular.
…seems like a passing of the torch moment, with mitch leaving cardboard of the rings and now you guys starting up. i’ve listened to CotR since the beginning and it’s still good so i’ll still listen to it, but it’s a shame that mitch left. it will be good to have another podcast to listen to. you’ve got a great cast!
Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m a big fan of COTR and love what they do, and I think it’ll be great for the community if both podcasts can exist together for a long time.
Very excited to start this, just waiting to finish the against the shadow so I don’t hear any spoilers! I’ve enjoyed this blog very much and have really been looking forward to the point in the game this podcast starts so I can start listening!
