Contest: The Fifth Sphere

by on October 17, 2013

The Blood of Gondor has been officially released by Fantasy Flight Games, and I’m giving readers a chance to win their very own copy. That’s right, it’s time for another TftC contest! This one will once again involve the creation of custom cards, but with a twist this time: I’m asking entrants to create a fifth sphere. Since the days of the Core Set, we’ve enjoyed the four traditional spheres (Lore, Leadership, Tactics, Spirit), the special Saga spheres notwithstanding, but now it’s time to shake things up a bit. I’ve been intrigued by the idea of what a new sphere would be like, what concept it would embody, and what gameplay effects it would bring to the table. Here’s what you need to do to enter the contest:

* Create a new sphere, including a name, color, and gameplay focus/theme (for example, Tactics = combat, Lore = knowledge, etc.). Bonus points if you create a custom icon, but it’s not strictly necessary.

* Create a custom hero card that exemplifies this new sphere. It can be any hero, with any stats and abilities you want, as long as it shows what your new sphere is all about.

That’s all there is to it! Show me what you’ve got readers, and you can get your hands on a Blood of Gondor Adventure Pack. Submit your entries, including a custom card and a short description of your new sphere, to The deadline for this contest is next Friday, October 25th.

  1. Just want to let people know that is very easy to create a new sphere with Strange Eons 3 and The Lord of the Rings plugin: You can give the card template the colour you want and add the sphere icon you like with simple controls.

Indeed, thanks for the reminder. For those who are struggling to find it, I believe you can change the color under the template tab.

Question to Strange Eons 3 – do you use some specific library of pictures, or you searc hthe Internet for them? Is there some resource where there are pictures keeping the L&F of the LoTR LCG theme?

Generally, I find images from the internet. There isn’t one site that I would recommend, but Deviant Art has a ton of possible images, of varying quality and art style. You also could look through the work by the most famous Tolkien artists, like John Howe and Ted Nasmith.

I’ve sent my idea, but didn’t change the sphere color on cards, I have no idea how to do it. Hope it is OK. I have sent the icon idea as separate file 🙂

  3. Fantastic contest idea! I’ve been trying to think of another sphere and everything that comes to mind already sort of fits into the existing options. It makes me both more appreciative of the designers’ ingenuity in choosing the four spheres and more determined to come up with a creative idea of my own! I can’t wait to see the submissions on this one.

Thank for pointing to strange Eons. It helped a lot!

    Where can I send it?
